Food shopping & more...
We find that since Tooreens is a long way from everywhere, what really works is to have lunch out and eat back home in the evenings. It’s worth buying local fish, Kerry lamb and steak and local cheeses. The local supermarkets in Waterville are very good and are open until 11.00pm. Waterville Waterville is blessed with two small supermarkets which stock pretty much everything. The range isn’t vast, but you can get pretty much everything and they are open until 11.00pm. Recommended for fresh bread and chocolate cake! Both supermarkets have ATM machines and do cash-back with purchases. Scarrif Meats This butcher has improved by leaps and bounds in the last year or two. We find them a little expensive and not quite as good as Millers in Cahersiveen, but very good none the less. Pharmacy There’s a good pharmacy in Waterville open every day. Post Office The post office offers some banking facilities and also internet connection. Cahersiveen Cahersiveen is the nearest large town and has a larger range of shops. Miller’s Meats - We find this butchers on O Connell Street very good. They have great quality meat and some pre-prepared meals (which we’ve not tried). Quinlan’s Fish Shop - Main Street, Cahersiveen - on the Waterville end, past the Cathedral. Locally caught fish always excellent. O'Driscolls Off Licence - Main Street, Cahersiveen, just before the cathedral. The best selection of wines and beers around - pricier than the supermarkets, but with a far better selection. Supermarkets There are two large supermarkets on the way out of town on the right. Further afield Kenmare is quite the gourmet centre of the area. If you visit, it's worth checking out the local cheeses. |
