Local directions
Tooreens is seven miles inland from Waterville. Just opposite the works for the newly refurbished Hog's Head Golf Course, take the road leading inland.
The road takes you along by Lough Currane, then the smaller Lough Capall - going deeper and deeper into Glenmore. When you pass the old Glenmore National School (now a small museum), you're only a mile or so away.
The next marker is a little bridge at right angles to the road (see the photo below). Once you spot this in the distance, you'll also see the white gable of the house.
The next marker is a little bridge at right angles to the road (see the photo below). Once you spot this in the distance, you'll also see the white gable of the house.
As you go over the bridge, you'll see the gable more clearly, but when you go round the next corner, however, the house will disappear into the trees again.
You'll see Tom & Teresa's yellow house opposite - as you approach look out for an ordinary farm gate on the left - that's it. It's best if one person gets out and opens (then closes) the gate. The track up to the house is quite steep, so drive carefully.
The valley ends in a tureen-shaped hollow - surrounded by mountains - this is the end of the road and the only way is up!
